April developed her own loose style, recognisable by her animals with enchanting eyes and playful images of giraffes and primates, along with any animal that pulls her heart strings.

Having sold many pieces both nationally and internationally, April has had a number of exhibitions and continues to be heavily involved in community arts projects and local street art.

About April

Growing up in North Queensland, April enjoyed a childhood rich in outdoor lifestyle, and spent many holidays sailing around the beautiful Whitsundays. Her love of her country took her around Australia with her husband and children and they lived in many beautiful places including the Kimberleys in WA, the New England Highlands in NSW and the Dandenong Ranges in Vic. Eventually they settled in Maryborough in the Fraser Coast, Qld where they now have a beautiful property surrounded by gumtrees.

Her love of animals is clear in her artwork, often depicting giraffes with long eyelashes, heart-wrenching orangutans and wild horses. April has had many commissions to draw beloved pets. The eyes are always the last thing she draws and she knows the piece is complete when the expression speaks volumes.

Preferring larger sized works, April has gained the ability to paint murals and street art as a result, and they are brightly coloured and often full of whimsy, depicting animals and fun, vibrant subjects.

Over the years April has become well known in her community for her public works and include a number of concept designs for the Fraser Coast Region Council who have also commissioned her to design bronze sculptures to enhance Maryborough’s CBD streetscape. April also contributed to the Story Bank museum, painting 20 tiny bank mice throughout the historical building for visitors to find, and a gigantic hammer head shark that sits out the front of the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery.

Along with drawing, painting and creating art in many different mediums, April has also illustrated a children’s book, written by her mother Kate.

In her spare time, April has taken up Toastmasters in an effort to combat her fear of public speaking and is now an award winning and inspiring speaker.
